The story of how one family rescued a forgotten 1906 general store on the Mother Road — and turned it into Parks, Arizona's heart and soul.
When Paul and Veronica decided to buy the store in order to avoid it possibly being destroyed for the use of the land, they quickly realized there were decades worth of repairs that needed to be done in order to restore this beautiful building back to its original glory. This is the story of bringing it back — and keeping Parks in the history books.
Paul and Veronica fell in love with this forgotten roadside store the moment they laid eyes on it. Built in 1906, the store had been a fixture of the Parks community for over a century — but years of neglect had taken their toll. The couple made the bold decision to purchase the property and restore it to its former glory, preserving a piece of Route 66 heritage for the next generation.
With patience and a clear vision, Paul and Veronica gave the old building the care it needed — refreshing it inside and out while honoring its original character. The result is a space that feels both timeless and welcoming, ready for a new chapter on Route 66.
The kitchen floor was given a fresh start and beautifully restored — a small detail that set the stage for everything that would come next.
The whole family pitched in to bring the store back to life. The shelves were stocked, a brand-new bar top was added, and the kitchen came together piece by piece. The checkered floors went down, the Route 66 signs went up, and slowly but surely, the store started to feel like home again.
Today, The Old Route 66 Parks Store is alive and thriving — serving fresh food, cold drinks, and warm community spirit to every traveler who walks through the door. Paul and Veronica's dream didn't just save a building. It saved a piece of America.
